About TACS

Taiwanese American Cultural Society of the Capital District, Inc. (紐約首府台美文化促進會) is an affiliated organization of TAA. It was established in May 2004 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit charitable corporation with tax-exempt status. Although TACS and TAA are two separated legal entities, they have overlapping memberships and governing boards by design. TACS’s mission has more cultural and educational bent while TAA’s mission has more social functions. They will complement each other in activities and carry out joint programs with expanded human and financial resources.

The stated purpose of the TACS is to promote Taiwanese arts, culture, history, and society to various elements of the community at large, and in specific to:

  1. Provide educational incentives to college, high school, and middle school students interested in pursuing Taiwanese art, culture, heritage, history, and language;
  2. Promote the studies and appreciation of arts, culture, ethnic values, heritage, history, and language of Taiwan;
  3. Promote cultural diversity and community solidarity throughout the Capital District community, and;
  4. Introduce the Capital District community to Taiwanese culture, etc. through art exhibitions, cultural exhibitions, lectures, musical performances, presentations, seminars, theatrical performances, etc.

Who can join?

An individual, who supports the purposes of the Corporation and has been a resident of the Capital District for a total of two (2) years unless such residence requirement is waived by the Board of Trustees, is eligible to apply for membership in the Corporation.
